LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES

We now host three Little Free Libraries—one at the Little Rising Star Pre-K program, one at Indian River Academy, and one at Bridges Early Learning Center.  We keep these libraries stocked with pre-K books—many donated from our members and guests at our Book Review Breakfasts.

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF THE TREASURE COAST

A physical-activity-based positive development program for 3rd-8th grade girls.  The program teaches life skills and self-esteem and culminates in a celebratory 5k running event in December.  We give scholarships to eight girls who could not otherwise pay full tuition.

Members mentor/tutor elementary school children in reading and other subjects.

AAUW FLORIDA TECH TREK CAMP SINCE 2013

We contribute annually to Tech Trek, a weeklong STEM camp for seventh-grade girls in Florida.  We sent a girl from Sebastian River Middle School in 2016.

STEM CAMP FOR GIRLS SINCE 2016

A summer program in STEM + Arts that encourages students to listen to alternate opinions and create a knowledge base, while increasing confidence and desire to achieve creatively.  They work on experiments in many areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, and take excursions to places of scientific interest.

INDIAN RIVER REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR SINCE 2011

Members mentor and judge at this annual event.  To encourage girls in STEM, our branch provides two $ 50 awards to girls who show promising science potential.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDIAN RIVER STATE COLLEGE WOMEN CONTINUING FROM AA TO BA SINCE 1971

Each year the branch awards $1,200 scholarships to female AA recipients who are continuing their education towards a Bachelor’s degree. In addition, we have an endowed scholarship of $500 annually.  The IRSC Foundation administers these scholarships.

AAUW Vero Beach branch is offering a new scholarship opportunity for the 2022-2023 academic year.

High school girls from VBHS, SRHS, and IRCHS, who have achieved academic excellence, demonstrated leadership potential in high school, and have financial need, can apply for scholarship funds for the 2022-2023 academic year.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

AAUW Vero Beach hosts several continuing education events. All meetings are open to the public.

Book Review Breakfasts, since 1986

We are most well-known for these monthly events from November through March, in which a speaker from the community chooses a book she/he is passionate about and presents it to our members and guests.  These are always inspiring events.

Branch Meetings, since 1964

Often held at a local restaurant, these meetings have speakers of interest from the community from whom we always learn.

SENIOR EXPO

At this event, held at the Intergenerational Center, vendors who serve seniors have booths and representatives who explain their services.  Sponsors of the event, like Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, the VNA, Renaissance Senior Living, and New Vision Eye Center host presentations by their doctors.  In 2022, AAUW will begin the process of transitioning this event to the Senior Collaborative of Indian River County.
