PUBLIC POLICY

Public-Policy-Priorities-2022.png

Our public policy program is directed by our mission – to advance gender equity for women and girls through education, advocacy, and research. The guiding principles of our public policy program are aligned with AAUW Florida and AAUW National’s Public Policy Priorities, which are established every two years by a vote of members.

Angela Boling is our Vero Beach Branch Director for Public Policy. She sends out local and state email updates on non-partisan issues related to AAUW priorities. She is seeking members who would like to meet to explore ways to further our goals and learn more about the AAUW’s Diversity and Inclusion focus.

AAUW-Vero Beach must remain nonpartisan in order to retain its status as a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Therefore, all program presenters shall refrain from taking sides or showing favoritism toward any political group or ideology. We ask that those who attend our events do the same. During AAUW-VB events, please…

DO:

  • Speak respectfully, using fact-based, objective language.

  • Listen calmly to other points of view.

  • Engage in constructive dialogue, despite diverse perspectives and opinions.

  • Focus on solutions, not an agenda.

  • Promote collaboration and common ground, whatever the issue.

DO NOT:

  • Endorse any political party or candidate.

  • Express disdain for other views or groups.

  • Use emotionally charged, triggering language or terminology.

Please follow these guidelines and contribute to constructive dialogue and problem-solving at our events and in our community.

We talk possibilities, not politics!

Other Initiatives

Susan Grandpierre leads our local Women’s Economic Security Group, which has compiled a Career Resource Guide to assist IRC women at varying life stages to find local organizations with needed services.

When possible, AAUW-Vero Beach works with Indian River State College to sponsor an AAUW student club, often holding seminars to help students develop leadership skills, learn about issues affecting the lives of women and girls, and use the AAUW StartSmart Program, to gain confidence to negotiate for better benefits and pay.
