About Us

Statement of Purpose for the Vero Beach Branch of AAUW
We support scholarships, grants and programs for women and girls in Indian River County
The purpose of the Vero Beach Branch is to further AAUW National’s policies and to support scholarships, grants and programs for women and girls in Indian River County. We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization and we operate exclusively for any or all charitable and educational purposes. In keeping with this purpose, AAUW-Vero Beach promotes equity, education, and the development of opportunities for women and girls that enable them to realize their full potential.

AAUW National began in 1881 with a group of young women college graduates who founded an organization to promote women’s higher education.  Since then, AAUW has been the nation’s leading voice promoting education and equity for women and girls through its research, public policy, legal advocacy, international programs, fellowships, grants and awards.

AAUW conducts advocacy work at both the national and local level.  Our commitment to our mission is reflected in our public policy efforts, programs, the AAUW Leadership and Training Institute, and diversity initiatives.  AAUW’s various funds advance women’s causes. The AAUW Fund advances educational, research and professional opportunities for women around the world, and the Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) combats gender and workplace discrimination on campuses and in the courts.
