Men to Avoid in Art and Life
by Nicole Tersigni
Men to Avoid in Art and Life by Nicole Tersigni is a light, humorous work inspired by the author's social media habit of posting art images and details of men interacting with women in 17th Century genre paintings from art history. Tersigni "recasts" the images with sassy descriptions that reveal modern relevancies like "mansplaining," patronizing behavior, and other sexist conduct that for centuries was taken for granted.
Using PowerPoint, Marshall Adams will deconstruct the book a bit, bring in some of the original art history, reveal the contemporary (and funny) descriptions, and break down these centuries-old slights and misogynies. This will be an interactive presentation, a conversational back-and-forth with the audience.
